I heard a little birdie that EDWIN Jeans will be opening a Pop up shop in the New Cape Quarter Life Style Centre in Cape Town ..... Ok it’s not so much a birdie as it is a big poster of Brad Pitt on the side of the Cape Quarter. I think they might be opening this weekend so pop around the quarter to have a look.!

One of Cape Towns best design "treasures" Liam Mooney just moved his showroom closer to the CBD. Dry Goods opened doors last week on 64 Wale Street. I haven't been but definitely going to check it out very soon! I suggest you do the same! Check out his website here......

I just have to say that I love Unknown Union's interiors. They've been open for a while now in Cape Town and have made quite the waves on the design blog world! Just to give you a quick background: Unknown Union is a Men’s Boutique on the trendy Kloof Street in Cape Town, South Africa. They stock brand from the likes of aNYthing, Pendleton, Surface To Air, Warriors of Radness, RXMANCE and Penfield USA. The design of the boutique was done by New York Based Rafael de Cárdenas of Architecture At Large. They wanted to move away from the typical look that you would find in a men’s store. I just love the use of colours and how they fade into one another. This effect get enhanced with a dramatic display of Fluorescent tube lights on the ceiling.

They're on 24 Kloof Street. Go and check out the awesomeness for yourself....

WOW! Imagine living in this apartment! … This 6,500-square-foot apartment　is　build　on the top floor of the Brooklyn Clock Tower. One of　New York’s　largest　poured concrete buildings.　This gorgeous kitchen situated in what used to be the control room of the Clock Tower, was designed by MINIMAL USA . Sigh! I wouldn't mind waking up to breakfast in this kitchen!

With winter fast approaching Cape Town, I thought I’d go looking for some winter fashion inspiration....

Creams, Beiges, checks, and navy's are definitely in this winter. Don't forgot a nice chunky knitted Jersey, most definitely a winner. Luckily for us in South Africa our winters aren't that cold so a pair of leather loafers and a nice rolled up cream trouser will do nicely for those in between days.

This is the theme for this year’s Decorex that will be taking place in the CTICC from 29 April to the 2nd May. The show aims to express Cape Town's creative energy through form, function, colour, shape and textures. Led by the “back to basic” approach they will guide visitors though a "maze of creative possibilities". Strong emphasis will be put on "proudly self-made", with free demonstrations, colour and technique advice.

For those who don't want to miss the Royal wedding, will be happy to know that it will be screened and celebrated with modern high teas, champagne bars and romance inspired interiors. Absolutely splendid if you ask me....

Some of the highlights this year will be the IDD Trend Showcase with Dave Nemeth, The Future of colour with Plascon, BOS Tea House curated by Koncept design to name a few.

Can't wait to go this year as it sounds like it will be one for the books. I am personally very excited to see the BOS Tea house! If you need more info please visit the Decorex website...

Free World Design Centre.....

I was so excited when I first heard about the Free World Design Centre. Finally, just what the Cape Town Interior Design Scene needed. Cape Town has just made its Bid for Design Capital 2014, and I feel that it is initiatives like the Free World Design Centre that will get us the win for sure!

Free World Design Centre is run by Lauren Shantall and her team of highly qualified ladies. They offer a consultation service to members of the trade, i.e. Architects, Interior Designers, Decorators and Property Developers as well as a free to use Extensive Interior Design Reference Library. In addition to this they offer a 3D rendering service to their trade customers. 　The centre's Meeting and Consultation areas are also available to be hired for client consultations an presentations

Of course if you are running a centre driven by the interior design trade, your space should reflect the knowledge and skills that you are offering. 　This is where the team of Tonic came in. They helped create a space that in itself is enough inspiration for any artist. The end result was an eclectic mix of South African artistry and design. On street level there are several pods that house exhibitions by leading designers and decorators, which Changes on a regular basis.

But wait there is indeed more... If you've been to the centre by now, you will have noticed Hemelhuijs. The latest venture by the very talented Jacques Erasmus. Opening up onto the Free World Courtyard, Hemelhuijs is the perfect spot for a relaxed lunch in the CBD.

I make no secret about the fact that I love living in Cape Town. It is one of the most amazing City's in the world. Just this week I decided to rather walk down to Longstreet by using the Fanwalk as apposed to driving. I was so surprised to see so much life on the Fanwalk. The cute little restaurants, people sitting having lunch on St Andrews Square and just the general buzz of excitement. I will definitely strole down there more.....

I saw Andrea very briefly when she was down in Cape Town over the December Holidays. Shame sounded like the poor women hardly gets time for anything. She also told me about Anatomy's new space in 44 Stanly Avenue. So can you imagine the excitement when I saw pics of the new space on her blog? I really hope I can swing past when I visit Joburg in March!

I saw Black swan over the weekend, and all I can say is wow! Just go and see it, but be prepared it is a bit disturbing at times but absolutely brilliant!

I don't know why but I’ve always had a strong appreciation for concrete. This is weird because concrete gives of this very cold feeling, and I like to believe I am all about warmth. But there's no denying that this is one of the coolest apartments I've seen in a long time. It was designed for a Brazilian business man and DJ, in the West side of São Paulo.

Being a renovation of an 80's apartment, Guilherme Torres, a Brazilian Architect, had to keep the toilets, and bedrooms for structural reasons. Some of the windows however was taken away to create a box effect, where the combination of floor and wall covering with the integrated LED lighting created a 3 Dimensional effect, similar to that in a night club.

I saw this house on The Designer Pad and just had to re-blog it. Not sure why, but i do like it. I love the strong lines of the shapes and the almost glossy effect they have against the rawness of the concrete. It was designed by Spanish architectural firm G&R Studio.

I discovered my new favourite coffee spot last week. Its a small little place on Long Street, called Yourstruly! Its got Amazing vibe, amazing coffee and the owner, well he's got amazing style. Check out the blog and if you're in Cape Town, go for a coffee tomorrow during lunch. O and by the way, love the use of recycled wood in the interiors!

Have a look at these concept 3d’s for the Miska Resort Estate, on the Mahe Island, Fairyland Peninsula. Know where that is? Me neither, but it’s close to the Seychelles if I understand correctly. It was done by South African Architecture Firm SAOTA (Stefan Antoni, Olmesdahl, Truen Architects). The buildings were designed in such a way that it embraces the Landscape and surrounds. The result is a beautiful and harmonious relationship between man made and the natural Beauty of the Islands. (Wow, I sound all inspired and intelligent, mental note remember to say stuff like that more often.) Go and have a look at SAOTA'S website, they've recently finished a few amazing projects.

I had the privilege of seeing Civil twilight yesterday at Kirstenbsch Gardens. So if there is still some of you who don’t know who they are, just Google them and get with the program, because you are going to want to know who they are. It was such an amazing show and what made it even better was the fact that they are originally from Cape Town. The atmosphere was so cool, and I think that the band themselves were very excited to play Kirstenbosch. They’ve got this amazing mysterious sound to their music, and the lyrics are equally as beautiful! Here’s an interview of them with "Letters from the sky" playing in the background. So have I mentioned that I’m really in love with their music?

Christmas is my absolute favourite time of year. I start acting like a little child over this time, and not because of the gifts, that's just an added bonus. I just love spending time with friends and family over this time, and in SA we have summer which just adds to the festivities! I just had to post this absolutely beautiful video. Christine Meintjies, a very talented Wedding photographer (in my opinion one of the best) got Married a while ago to Iaan Van Niekerk. Their wedding video was shot by FJS Productions. Now don't get me wrong, wedding video's are something I'm not too fond of, but if its anything like this one, then I'm completely sold on the idea. Christine wanted FJS Productions to shoot the video entirely with SLR Digital Cameras, something that I have only seen done overseas. The end result was this amazing video that is sure to give you a lump in your throat or even give you a tear or two! Hey, I’m not judging! I had more than a few tears! I’m very excited about Vintage Lifestyle Magazine. A new free online magazine inspired by everything and anything vintage. Vintage lifestyle will cover fashion, décor, travel, unique coffee experiences, beauty icons from the pre 80’s era and music, to only name a few. Vintage as a trend has taken over in the last 2 years or so, influencing how a lot of us dress, and even how we decorated our homes. This is why Vintage lifestyle could not have come at a better time or from a better place then Cape Town.

soccer world cup 2022 - Qatar...

We are all aware how soccer fever has taken our country by storm this year. I myself was so impressed with our stadia, and how it compared to international designs. Earlier this week it was announced that Russia would host the 2018 FIFA world cup and Qatar the 2022 world cup. So as we have come to expect from the Middle East, the proposed stadia for 2022 are something quite spectacular. Have a look at the video showcasing the proposed first 5 stadiums by Qatar. I am not so excited about the brightly coloured ribbon one, but the second stadium inspired by a shell, was just amazing.

Ewaldi Grové and Danielle Ehrlich have been making quite the waves in the South African design industry. I have just received images of one of their latest projects, and I have to say that I absolutely love it. These 2 gorgeous ladies believe that through their designs they can create change. This is such an awesome motto to design by...

Liv's design approach is based on sustainable urban design. With this project it has been no different. They have kept the client's original furniture and in so doing, not adding to landfills. They decided that the best approach would be, "to pierce through the synthetic" with a strong concept that they can incorporate through out the space. With that in mind they introduced the green thread. The green thread has been hand stitched through desks, chairs, swings and up the walls to a large green ball that hangs from the ceiling. This represents the Fragility of the world.

The thread isn't just for show, its also functional. Where it threads up the wall by the work stations it acts as a pin board. This design is a good example of how you don't need to go completely over board to have an awesome design, and how designing green can also be extremely chic.

How cool is this London based shoe store called Foot Patrol. The understated out side facade of the store is simply a gateway to what has been done on the inside. A second shop complete with a pitched roof, has been constructed to float within the store shell. I love the almost Cold War bunker look of the store. The store is made entirely out of recycled scaffolding board and finished of with satin steel fixtures. The shoes are displayed very neatly, almost like in a museum, and all hand picked by Michael Kopelman, original owner of foot patrol.

Australian Designer Patrick Johnson, launched this very cool campaign last year, round about this time. This was the first for this very stylish young label. Meanwhile another Australian label that launched end 2009, has just aired an campaign now with the same concept. Mmmm I do smell a rat. However luckily for Mr Johnson this has lead to more exposure for his label. Personally I like the Patrick Johnson collection more then that of MJ Bale. Never the less this is still a very cool concept and the actual designs of the cloths are very nice! Only one of the few great things coming out of Australia at the moment.

If you are a Cape Townian you might be familiar with 95 Keerom Street. The elegant restaurant situated in the old, Company Gardens Stables and Slave quarters. Owner and Chef Giorgio Nava has opened his second signature restaurant right opposite 95 Keerom Street in an old Tea Warehouse. It’s called Carne and as its Italian name suggests its completely dedicated to meat. For the design of Carne Giorgio called upon the same Cape Town based company that designed the interiors of 95 Keerom. Inhouse Brand Architects worked closely with Giorgio to create a space aimed at reflecting exceptional design and quality that would have an everlasting appeal and style, that matches that of the food.

The design was inspired by the original construction of wood and steel of the old tea warehouse it is in. These elements were fused with elements founded in traditional Italian Butchery's. Elements such as Carrara marble surfaces, butcher blocks, the retro-style Italian meat slicer and solid oak tables. Adding a modern touch by contrasting with the raw wood finish of the interiors are Original Phillippe Stark Louis Ghost chairs.The split level entrance Leads down to the ground floor cocktail bar, with a Floating mild steal staircase. The Cocktail bar is in view of the showroom kitchen. The basement is the actual restaurant part. The light fittings are concealed making you "feel" the light and not see it.

the pallet project...

Whoever said that using recycled items in interiors doesn't work, have not seen this yet. I am a firm believer that if you are going to use recycled stuff in your designs it should not look recycled! Granted there is a definite market for those kind of things, and some of them are really nice (like the Heath Nash designs).

The new studio for the Amsterdam based, Brand Base ad agency, was designed by Most Architecture, from Rotterdam Holland. The clients brief was to use an authentic, recyclable material throughout the space. This led to the use of Euro shipping Pallets. The design concept which is "an open autonomous landscape" is made up of 3 layers. The 1st being the empty existing space which was painted white, to provide an homogeneous starting point for the pallet structure. The actual pallets creates a structure that changes the character of the existing space, accommodating all the service i.e. workstations, staircase, lighting and seating. The Third layer is all the added furniture, staircase banister and light fixtures all in black . The pallet structure doesn't dictate the space it rather facilitates.

I was so excited to see what the new breakfast show on SABC 3 was all about. But unfortunately me being who I am, I only saw 3 minutes of it on my way out the door. Tswelopepe productions, the same team responsible for Passella, Top Billing and No Reservations, is finally bringing South Africa a new and fresh addition to morning viewing. Something I would say, we have been craving for a while.

Now to my favourite part. The Penthouse set is on the 7Th floor of the Equinox Building, in Seapoint, Cape Town. The set was designed by The Fold Architecture, one of cape towns most freshest design companies. Spotted on set are 3 pieces by 2 of my favourite Designers. The Fat Spot by the very talented Tom Dixon and Benjamin Hubert's Labware and Heavy Pendant range. The set has a lounge area, where traffic, interviews and weather will happen from, a kitchen (as you would expect from any self respecting breakfast show), a gym area, a performance area and a outdoor terrace area with beautiful views of the city. Although the set isn't completely finished it is already looking pretty good.

The group of talented presenters includes, Liezel van der Westhuizen, Ewan Strydom, Michael Mol, Katlego Maboe and Kiera.

One of my favourite designers, Benjamin Hubert's range of amazing lighting is now available in South Africa. I am so excited about this I can hardly contain myself. The Modern Garden Company, known for their exquisite range of outdoor furniture, had recently relaunch their bigger and improved showroom. The new showroom is basically just an expansion of the original. Along with the expansion they have added a few new ranges which includes that of Benjamin Hubert. So back to Mr Hubert, unfortunately they don't have the Heavy Desk Lamp which I have previously posted about. I know tear tear, I was so looking forward to see that one in real life. But they do have his Labware lights which is equally awesome! Check out their website here and also go down to Greenpoint and spend some time there.

The South African Blog awards was held last night at The One and Only Hotel V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. It was a lot of fun to see all the blogger's keeping true to their obsessions and Tweeting a "play by play" if you will, of the event. Two of my favourites won their individual categories. Congrats to Kim Gray and Indie Berries. Indie Berries actually won both the awards she was nominated for. Double whammy!

Where else but down under.... I think a boutique butchery is such an awesome idea as the general image of a butchery is not one of style and class. Victor Churchill on Queen Street In Woollhara, Sydney, was designed by Dreamtime Australia Design. This uber cool, European inspired butchery fits in perfectly with the surrounding Cafes, Restaurants and Boutiques. Daily specials get displayed under a glass dome with CCTV cameras aimed at it. This homage to the Fall 2008 Louis Vuitton window display is a good example of the mix between the traditional and contemporary.

OKHA, the company that has become synonymous with style and quality is collaborating with iFi and 2 young artists to bring us Design Art Sound. The artists Paul Senyol and Daniel Orm's brief was to be inspired by music. Led under the guidance of Adam Court, the creative director of OKHA, this was sure not to be to difficult. Adam feels “design can be art, affecting us both emotionally, rationally and physically". A lot of times during my life I have found comfort, inspiration and even short lived joy from music. I hardly ever design without some form of music around me. So I tend to agree with the man. The main event will be on the 29 of September, and I presume its invite only, however I'm sure they will have the work displayed in the Cape Quarter showroom for some time. For all you lovers of Modernist architecture, this is a definite must to watch. Its the trailer for a movie documenting the life's work of Architectural Photographer Julius Shulman who brought modernism to the everyday American. He is known as the worlds greatest architectural photographer. He unfortunately passed away in 2009, but his work is forever immortalised on film. He has captured work of Frank Lloyd Wright (my personal favourite), Frank Gehry and Richard Neutra to name a few. How's this very cool Little frozen yogurt shop in Berlin. Graphical cut outs on the wall ads just the right amount of colour to this other wise minimalistic clean and white space. I'm am so sorry for being a absentee blogger the last few weeks. Between job hunting, business plans and my current job, blogging took a bit of a back burner. Which is sad cause it is something that I really enjoy. Any way but enough off that. Between all of this I saw the Fredensborg House near Copenhagen. It was done by Norm Architects, based in Denmark. The clean lines and fresh natural crispness off this house is just beautiful. I would love to relax for a bit in this space. You know, take a load of with a glass of red. I also love the Milk light. Los Angeles was a buzz again Yesterdayas as it was time for the 62 Annual Emmy awards. Can you imagine the pressure to look your absolute best. The men kept it simple in their tuxedo's, and lets face it there is nothing more dapper then a man in a well cut tux. The lady's on the other hand had the opportunity to spice things up with their gowns. Needless to say it wasn't all that spicy. There were a lot of strapless gowns, which is a given at these events but the ones that really caught my eye were the dresses that were different then the norm. My favourites where Anna Paquin in her gorgeous Alexander Mcqueen gown with gold detail, Nina Dobrev in a cream of the shoulder gown by Zuhair Murad with beautiful lace detail and do not forget Kelly Osbourne looking so thin and gorgeous in a black Tony Ward gown. Yesterday was such a nice summery winter day, and due to the fact that I'm stuck at work some weekends I had the day off. So it was off to Stellenbosch for the day as I haven't been in ages. I've decided before leaving that lunch was to be had at the Nook Eatery, and I wasn't sorry for a second. I ended up spending more then 2 hours there as the atmosphere is just so relaxing and cosy. Had a lovely Tai Chicken Sandwich and for dessert an o so heavenly almond and pear tart. Also kudos on the decor , very sweet homey and quaint. These are just gorgeous, so elegant and soft just as fashion for woman should be. Don't get me wrong, I love strong architectural lines seen in evening wear in the last 2 years or so, but there is just something so soft and elegant about these designs. They where Designed by Australian designer Alexi Freeman and they form part of her Spring/Summer collection called "Diamondiferous", and as the name indicates, the inspiration behind it was shiny rocks, of the expensive kind. The design magazine that inspired my love for design, is celebrating their 50th issue. Visi has been gracing us with fantastic design for the last 12 years. I can remember buying my first issue in High School, and imagining to be someone they will one day feature. To commemorate this milestone they decided to have an exhibition with the visi team's top 50 designs, which includes buildings, products, furniture, cars and technology, that will according to them, take us into the future.

The exhibition, in association with Absolut Vodka is being held at the iArt Gallery, 71 Loop Street, Cape Town. It runs from 18 to 23 August. Can't wait to stop by on Saturday

Again congratulations on 12 extraordinary years, and being the source of inspiration to many a students design projects.

You have probably heard of Missibaba but myself being who I am, I'm still going to put in my 10cent. Missibaba is a Cape Town based leather accessory design company established in 2005. The Creative mastermind behind Missibaba is designer Chloe Townsend who started the company after completing her studies. Her studio is based in The Palms Centre in Woodstock Cape Town, and she often collaborates with craftswomen at the IKhaya Trust Centre for embroidered bags. They also manufacture a line of jewelry and belts. So enough about the people, now on to these gorgeous bags! Each one is hand made beautifully. The result is a creative mix of colour and different textures. The are inspired by people and surrounds. Below a few images of their bags.

It seems like there has been an influx of very talented Furniture designers in the last 2 years or so. However, most of these designer have been at it for a while. One such designer, Liam Mooney, has recently opened his own showroom in Woodstock. The Showroom, called Dry Goods, fits in perfectly with the Woodstock Crowd.

One of Liams recent designs, can be seen in the New Upper East Side Hotel. The High Back Settee, a modular bench-like couch, designed specifically for public areas.They fit in perfectly with the high double volume entrance area of the Hotel. Each one encapsulated by very dramatic drapes, which creates these Little private areas. I recently sat on these and they are not too bad at all. I like the way they are not pretentious. They are simple and do the job they were designed for.

What a good way too start the day! I was doing the usual blog stalking last night, and then went on to youtube. You know how it is starts, watching one video and then that leads to the next and then to the next and to the next. I stumbled upon this video of an American guy Talyor Ward collaborating with an South African guy, Cobus Potgieter. So after this video the rest of the night was spent watching both these guys in action.

So Taylor lives in Denver Colorado. He is one of those youtube artists who is using this platform to promote themselves in a big way. He mostly does covers by himself or with other artists. But don't let the covers fool you, this guy has got some serious talent. He has his own recording studio, which he uses to make his own music or record other up and coming artists. Ok now on to the local talent. Cobus (awesome name by the way :-) ) lives in East London and is very much an Afrikaans boy. This guy has got some serious talent with the drums. I am still kind off in shock that I haven't heard of this guy yet because the numbers on his youtube channel speaks for themselves. His channel has been viewed 3819,040 times and he's got 133,269 subscribers. He has firmly broken into the American youtube phenomena! But please don't take my word for it, go and check this guy out. A little about the video posted below. Cobus recorded the drums down here in lovely South Africa and then Taylor recorded the vocals and the rest of the music, as well as doing the final mixing, in the US. Cobus back in SA, put the video together and the rest is history. Its only been up for 2 days, and already has had 126,298 views last time I checked. Make that number grow, and have a little look down below.

While we're still on the subject of platforms for South African designer, batch.co.za is one such website. Batch came about when 3 young designers needed to have a place where they can sell and promote their products. How does that saying go, if you can't beat them join them? Well what better way to get yourself and other designers out there then to create you own website?

What exactly is batch? Well its a web based 'store' that showcases young South African designers' products. From this platform they can promote their products and connect with possible clients, media and possible promoters.

As a "struggling" designer myself, I applaud these guys for creating such an awesome space for themselves and other designers to get noticed from.

Anatomy design a.k.a Andrea Kleinoog, has launch the new Lab Light. In her own words: " a more ‘youthful’ version of the Lab Light ". I am loving it!

This little baby is made from steel as appose to the porcelain and copper original. I do think you would agree that it is just as gorgeous as its predecessor. And if I am not mistaken it made its first public appearance at the Tiaan Nagel/Anatomy Design shop. This was a joint venture by both Tiaan Nagel and Anatomy design to open a shop, as they have done previous projects together and share a "cohesive aesthetic". As they describe it "a unique design destination". I can't wait to get to Joburg to go and check it out. You will find their showroom in the very cool 44 Stanley Avenue, which is quickly becoming one of Joburgs best kept secrets. But more about Stanley Avenue some other time.

One of my new must haves, is this beautiful desk lamp by London based designer, Benjamin Hubert. The light is made from a combination of thin casted concrete, aluminium and walnut. I love the combination of wood and concrete they always seem to complement each other so well. I also love the simplicity of the design.

I have always been one of those people extremely fascinated with the way others live, not in a weird way just how their spaces look. Being an Interior Designer myself and the first to say that your designers apartment or house isn't necessarily suited for the design mags. That being said it doesn't change the fact that they are fantastic designers.

So a trend has been going around, photographers are taking pictures of creatives in their living spaces. Great for me because I love seeing it. The following images are from one such a site. I love the lightness and airy feel to this house. Not my style, but I can be comfortable in a house like this. soccer world cup has come and gone...

The soccer madness has come to an end. I have to say, I thought I was going to be happy, but now I am left with a feeling of sadness. No more fan walk, no more friendly supporters, no more noisy vuvuzelas (ok so lets be honest here, I'm glad the vuvus are going to be making a lot less noise). It was such an amazing experience to be here in South Africa during this time. Our country did such an amazing job, and it’s about time that the rest of the world realise that we are a force to be reckoned with!

So for the last time, here's a video of Shakira singing "Waka Waka" at the amazing closing ceremony. I had goosebumps from start to finish.

I'm a big big big fan of men looking after themselves and being stylish and well dressed! Its not something that is only meant for women. But ok, before we get into a metro sexual discussion here, I have always wanted to go to one of those typical gentleman's shaving parlours. Yes I have had the chance to, but I'm a little hesitant to allow some one close to my neck with a blade! I don't want to end up like something from a Quinton Tarantino movie. Never the less, I think I am going to try it. I have always imagined that my grandfather would have been one of those gentlemen who would go to a place like that. But I'm sure he never did as he lived in a small town in the Karoo. Would have to check with the gran!

I happened to hear about this Barber Shop in Cape Town called Barnet Fair. They offer traditional hot towel shaves, head shaves, beard maintenance and haircuts. Sounds good doesn't it? They are situated in the St Stephen's Retail node on Bree Street. Complete with vintage Japanese Takara barber’s chair.

So I felt guilty after the fantastic week of soccer fever and partying that I had, that the blog wasn't being updated. Though I'm sure there is not too many of you out there, I still wanted to do a post today. Luckily I saw this fantastic Hotel over the weekend. Hotel Viura. Its located in the Spanish wine region of Rioja Alavesa.

The Hotel has 26 geustrooms, seven suites, two bars and a restaurant. As the Hotel is situated in an old spanish village right next to a 17th century church, the contrasting effect of the building is quite visable. Designed by Spanish firm, Designhouses, the design of the Hotel deviates from traditional form. It’s made up of a series of concrete cubes, one on top of the other, this gives the effect of it rising from the ground. Clever use of lighting and materials have created a modern work of art, so different from its enviroment but still blending in with its surrounds.

I am not that big on the interiors, but I love the effect of the exterior and the contrast to its surrounds. Kinda looks like little boxes stuck together, which reminds me of my younger days playing architect.

15 on orange...

15 on orange has quickly become one of Cape Towns, hottest and hippest places to be seen at. The building was designed by DHK Architects and the Interiors done by Source Interior Brand Architects. I have only been inside quickly once, but it was long enough to make a very good impression.

What I like about 15 on Orange, is the international appeal of it, but yet it doesn't take away the fact that it is situated in one of South Africa's most beautiful cities. The design of the building actually utilises the views of table mountain and Lionshead with its open glazed facades. They were required to keep some part of the original building for heritage purposes, this has lead to the northeast facade being kept in tack.

You immediately feel swept away into a world of luxury when you come in on street level. A beam of red tiles (maybe a subtle suggestion to a read carpet) leads you to the lift lobby. I was mesmerised by the scale of the interior atrium when the lift stopped on reception level. This atrium forms the hart of the building. It completely feels as if James Bond or one or other dapper action hero is going to be walking past in his tux.

If you’re in the area and haven't had a chance to stop by, make an event of it. Invite a few people and go for cocktails.

Sorry for the long absence! Its been an interesting 2 weeks to say the least! Allot to do with confusion! However, I'm back and thought it appropriate to do a world cup update.

I am so excited, and so proud what our country has done! Yes I know I might be talking to soon but still, we have come along way and already just the way that the country has came together, from all the little flags on the cars to even me wearing a bright bright yellow supporter t-shirt on football Fridays (hardly the most stylish thing), its just amazing and so inspiring!. Driving around in Cape Town at the moment is quite the adventure, from giant Vuvuzleas going up on one of the half build bridges to the giant Ferris wheel, by the cticc. Everything is starting to shape up! Even the BRT Buses are looking very dapper!

I can't wait to see the Freshly Ground and Shakira music video! And Might I add the first 3D music video ever! How awesome is that! Well done Guys! Check out the Preview to The video below and if you haven't seen Hyundai's Giant Vuvuzela, here is an image of it! So with 11 days to go, I'm sure its going to be an huge success if only for what it has done for us as South Africans!

This little 80sqm apartment was a project done by Italian furniture manufacturer Polifrom, called My Life. It was aimed at showing that the quality of your living space does not have to be compromised by the size of it. I love the fact that they have contrasted the monochromatic interiors with accent colour pieces yet these colours are still very subtle.

I don't know why, but lately I have really been liking the idea of a writing desks. There is a certain charm to it, which I just adore. Imagine having your own small vintage, retro or contemporary version of this very functional furniture piece. This particular one is from Dare studio, a UK based furniture design company. I love the masculinity of the leather mixed with the wood and the cantilevered effect from the side! It's been designed with laptops in mind so its equipped with special compartments for your power supplies. The drawers are also tapered, so that your pens always stay in the front of the drawers.

to say the least, it's freezing! Good to know that winter has arrived and is here to stay! While I was trying to stay warmish this morning, I came across this chair by Phillipe Starck. It was deigned for Kartell for their 2010 Salone del Mobile exhibition. Kartell is inspired by the abolition of coulour. Black is the new rainbow of colours! They have decided to move away from the bright energetic colours for which they are so well known, and collaborate with designers to create a range that is timeless in design and stand as a testament of their commitment to manufacturing technology, material research and creative innovation.

This particular chair I'm so "giddy" about is Phillipe Starcks's "Master". A tribute or rather homage to three icons of contemporary design. Basically he has taken the Series 7 by Arne Jacobsen, the Tulip Armchair by Eero Saarinen and the Eiffel chair by Charles Eames and merged them in to a one chair. By utilizing the outlines of each chair, he created a multi dimensional frame work that "hugs" and support the body.I'm impressed! but as usual, Mr Starck does not disappoints!

Finally I have a weekend of! So of coarse it was time to spend it with some close friends.

Friday night: red wine and Gnocchi at Vanilla in Cape quarter - Check!

Getting a bit philosophical about "secret crushes" and "life"- check!

Saturday: breakfast at Superette - Check!!!

Yes I did indeed, so finally I can give my honest opinion about this little Woodstock gem. Myself and three of my best friends went for breakfast this morning. What a lovely day in Cape Town. The calm before this weeks storm I'm told ( I knew I should have done the washing earlier) As usual the Vibe in Woodstock was just fantastic. Superette was no different. We all had a breakfast sandwich made from fresh bread and a cup of coffee to accompany . Very nice and just what you need on a Saturday morning. If I didn't skip gym this week, I probably would have gone for the very nice sweet treats they have. I love the vibe there. You kinda go sit where there's a seat as there are limited private tables. It doesn't matter if you join other people, just make conversation!

The design of the restaurant is just to cool! Love the retro feel to it and just the use of one colour, yellow. The furniture, very simple but yet so striking and functional.

In my opinion, this place rocks! I am definitely going back there after my next night out! It has local cafe feel vibe, and that I just love about it. You definitely have to make this a regular spot, or at least try it out once.

It is with so much envy that i wright this, as its a dream to design and own one of these. I have always been fascinated with yachting, or more so the luxury yachting side of things. The Ocean Emerald ads a whole new dimension to my fascination. It was designed by International Architecture firm, Foster + Partners for Yacht Pl us. This 41m Nautical palace, is just the epiphany of the ultimate marine lifestyle. Is been designed with strong emphasis on space and light which ads to its almost architectural feel. It has 5 suites, and sleeps up to 12 people. All furnishing and fittings have been supplied by Italian manufacturer Cassina and kitchen and galley equipment by Schiffini. It also comes complete with 7 highly trained crew members. The Ocean Emerald is the first of 4 identical yachts that will make their way to the ocean by end 2010. If one of them are ever in Cape Town, will someone please let me know!

o my word! just came across this very cool kids clothing label with the coolest or lets say creative name ever, "finger in the nose". their cloths are made and design with kids in mind. with jackets filled with french duck feathers, 100% wool jerseys from geelong merino or angora, skinny jeans, straight jeans you name it. this label kinda makes me want to be french and 9 years old! so its not available in south africa! but I'm sure you can order online!

winter is here...

the weather in cape town has been playing tricks the last few weeks, but has finally seem to have chosen winter. so with the pouring of rain outside and cooper curling up by my feet, I find myself, craving something warm and something very sweet and fattening. The perfect place to go for the best sweet treats in town is of coarse emporio leone in the new cape quarter.

at emporio leone indulgences is the word! I popped in the other day to spoil my friend, bought a brownie and lets just say, it didn't even last till after work. (sorry buddy, will buy you one tomorrow!) so long story short, the leone family has been making italian styled baked goods for twenty years and their treats have found their way to the shelves of mellisas, giovanni's and other high end cafes and food stores around cape town. they have finally decided to open up a shop selling exclusively their baked treats! tending to the shop, you'll find a strapping young man complete with tie and apron, adding to the almost boutique feel of their shop.

I have decided to try and get some tickets for the world cup! not sure if I would be able to but hey, lets see. I just want to be part of it! I'm really proud of this country and I'm sure that all capetonians would agree with me, we do have the most amazing stadium.

so a lot of international artists are teaming up for the world cup. shakira and freshly ground has done a collaboration which they will perform at the opening, this song is so much fun. it will definitely not be winning any awards but still its all about fun and everyone getting together! so enjoy!!!!

Crystal towers hotel and spa, the newest edition to the cape town hotel industry.

To be honest the first thing that drew me to this hotel is the very cool swimming pool. A cantilevered structure over the entrance with the front completely glass. Making swimming at this spot, definitely a interesting affair. the interiors are very sleek and contemporary and of set with a flamboyancy expressed with a fusion of unusual light fittings. A play of different colours ads to the contemporary cosmopolitan atmosphere. however it is quite far from the cbd and is more driven towards business men.

The hotel forms part of the crystal towers development, that includes retail, restaurants and businesses. The towers are connected to the canal walk side of the canal with a pedestrian walk.

so I recently came across this very exciting hotel. complete with en-suite garden, scratch patch and climbing post. don't worry this is not a hotel for the human kind. its a hotel for cats!
what a fantastic idea.

mollycoddle describe themselves as "In an environment with green space, situated in the peaceful Spitskop area close to Langenhovenpark (Bloemfontein), MOLLYCODDLE offers a boarding, care and entertainment concept that is unique in Bloemfontein." and as far as I can tell very unique to south africa. the hotel rooms are designed with themes. for example, there's a study room, for the more sophisticated cat, and then there's also a beach room for the cat who wants to relax and unwind for bit. they have a veterinarian on call 24/7, so you can rest assured if something should happen to socks, he'll be in great care.

hopefully this concept will take of in a big way and they'll open a hotel down in cape town, but for now we'll leave it up to the high society felines of bloemfontein to enjoy the luxury of mollycoddle

for the last 2 years or so, the fashion blogging world has been buzzing about a certain little girl. I'm talking about tavi gevinson, of style rookie of coarse. although there is some mixed feelings about the hype that surrounds her, I think that she's just great. gone are the days (or so I hope) that the misunderstood kids, are frowned upon. how fantastic is it that this little girl can be herself!

besides all the dress up she plays, she does have a seriously cool fashion sense. her style is so mature for her age and she seems to now exactly what works. this has not gone unnoticed! she has spent time with the likes of carl lagerfeld. this year alone she was front row of new york fashion week and. to say the least, I'm "muchos" jealous of this little teen. you go tavi!

this is what the very funny cara called me today! myself and her are sitting at work and she is constantly telling me I'm blogstalking too much so i decided this is the perfect opportunity to blogstalk her! so hope you're ready for this caralisious!

so not only doe she work for one of south africa's most prestigious furniture labels, and she is a budding interior designer, she also owns her own company called rugged designs. an organisation dedicated to product design. their first range is cara's very own"eco-aware home ware range " of hand knitted interior accessories. By using recycled fabrics and using over sized knitting needles they achieve a very cool chunky look which works great as scatter cushions and rugs. cara also employees about 8 ladies who knit for her on a regular bases. this all came about when she was chosen as a finalist for the green designers at woolworths competition in 2009.

you can find her designs at the kraal gallery in the new cape quarter. or if your lucky you'll spot cara at one of our local markets.

there's a new art space that has recently opened their doors in the bo-kaap called the haas design collective. their quirky collection includes sculptures, very edgy jewelry, photographs paintings and a range of exclusive printed scatter cushions with tretchikoff paintings on which they have the exclusive rights for. they showcase some fun and sometimes interesting once of pieces.

so its another gorgeous public holiday in south africa, and better yet a stunner of a day in cape town. so I saw these fantastic houses in the bo-kaap. a modern interpretation of the old bo-kaap houses. after doing some investigating I found out that it was done by team-architects a cape town based architecture firm that has been doing their thing since 1998, very nice!!!!!

its such a lovely day in cape town and I have to sit at work. ahw well, at least I have the blog to keep me company.

working in a lovely place like the new cape quarter does have its advantages. I'm constantly inspired to update my wardrobe as the o so stylish capetonians often come here for a leisure afternoon with friends. this also creates a problem as my wallet doesn't allow me to get to inspired. never the less, I do enjoy it here.
